Web-based Case-Control Study of Rare Diseases<br>
Lupus Internet Study<br>
<P>
Researching rare diseases is often challenging because it can be difficult to enroll enough people with the disease to draw reliable conclusions. The objective of this study is to see whether the Internet can help solve this problem by helping us recruit enough people with a relatively rare disorder. We are doing this by performing internet-based case control studies for a number of disorders, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE; lupus).
This study is funded by the National Institutes of Health, and is being conducted at Tufts New England Medical Center.<br>

Online Gout Study<br>
The Boston University On-line Gout Study is designed to investigate what might cause painful attacks in people who have Gout. This study is funded by the Arthritis Foundation, and is being conducted at Boston University School of Medicine by Dr. Yuqing Zhang and colleagues from the Data Coordinating Center (DCC).

Zilex Cold Sore Trial<br>
Meditech Pharmaceuticals is sponsoring us to test their new cold sore remedy over the Internet! Zilex cream contains a novel topical antiviral agent intended to treat cold sores. We are testing the effectiveness of Zilex in this Online clinical trial. We have just completed the trial and data analyses will begin soon.

Online Glucosamine Trial<br>
This ground-breaking NIH-funded study is one of the first clinical trials to be performed entirely over the internet. The trial is now over. Watch here for preliminary results.
