Wanted - Speakers for Meetings

AYRS is always looking for interesting subjects and speakers for its meetings.
If you have something you want to talk about, or hear about, or know of someone who
gives interesting talks related to nautical science in any of its forms, please contact
John Perry (for London meetings) tel: +44 (1923) 855 268, or Tom Blevins (for New
England meetings) tel: +1 (207) 882-6396. Thank you.

AYRS UK Sailing Meetings, Bray Lake, nr Maidenhead

Contact: Slade Penoyre, tel (UK) 01276 472 208

Informal AYRS meetings are being held every fine Saturday,
10am to 4pm at Bray Lake Watersports Centre (about 2 miles from M4 Junction 8/9).
Projects being developed and tested during these meetings include Torix Bennett's
speed sailing tri-scaph, Slade Penoyre's Ayrslide sitting-out device and Ayrsright
righting system, Tony Kitson's sailing canoe, Graeme Ward's dinghy, Roger Glencross'
paraglider/hapa. Any other projects would be welcome, model or full size, concept
or finished boat, and of course if members without their own projects want to come
along to talk, advise or (better still) actually help, we shall be delighted to see
them.

For directions to Bray Lake and more information about these AYRS meetings please
ring Slade Penoyre on +44 (0) 1276 472 208, daytime or evenings before 9 pm.

The purpose of the meet is to get out the kit we are
going to use for Weymouth Speed Week 97 and use it. There are two objectives in this:

1. Make sure it works

2. Get more people aware of how it works

The time table looks like: Friday 23rd May 11.00 a.m. take equipment to Weirwood
assemble and test. Survey lake for "best place" for a course, check we
have support boats available with crews plus a buoy or two. Saturday 24th May 10.00
a.m. to 4.00 p.m.: attempt to lay course and time a few craft etc. At 4.00 p.m.
have a debriefing in the clubhouse. I have to be on the road home by 5.00 p.m. at
the latest.

If anyone wants to come and play they will be more than welcome. I would point
out that boats will need third party insurance for £500,000.

The only problem I can see is that to measure the course we can't afford to rent
the laser tape or radios so we will have to make do with what I have.
