<H3><P>What a cool little radio this is! My father found it in a garage sale for a few dollars. It had a leaking motorcycle battery sitting on top of it, and it had a Cubs sticker on the side. The perforated plastic back panel was in pieces. In short, it was a mess.
<P>I completely gutted it, cleaned and lightly sanded the cabinet, and gave it a new paint job. I painstakingly glued the back panel back together. The dial is a multiple section clutched affair allowing very fine tuning, and it also needed to be taken apart and cleaned. The radio itself needed a new filter capacitor, so I replaced the 150 microfarad Siemens with a 1000 microfarad Sprague which improved the bass response in addition to correcting the hum problem. I lucked out on the tubes, as they all tested good. Many are Telefunken, so I am sure the tubes alone are worth far more than the radio! This baby even has an EL84/6BQ5 output! A good cleaning to the controls and tube sockets with Cramolin D5, plugged in an external antenna and this radio sounded awesome. It's sound and function reminds me of the early KLH table FM radios of the early 1960's. Visitors to this page, Hans and Stephan, tell me the radio was originally designed in 1956, and Stephan has one with a schematic dated 1958. Hans mailed me an interesting article about the Braun company and it's line of products. Thank you both for your input. This radio, like the rest of the early Braun line, was ahead of it's time. I have never seen it listed in any price books, have you?
