<h1>Leading the Way in Advanced Biofuels</h1>

The cellulosic ethanol industry is at a pivotal stage in its development as a viable alternative fuel. With our uniquely integrated technology and operational experience, DuPont is positioned as a key player in achieving global goals for energy independence and rural economic development, in addition to sustainable transportation fuel supply.</p>
<h2><img src="images/photo2.jpg" alt="Nevada commercial production" width="225" height="150" class="floatright" />How close is "commercial reality"?</h2>
<p>DuPont has purchased land to begin building its first commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant in Nevada, Iowa in 2012. Once fully operational, the facility will produce 27.5 million gallons per year. Its fully integrated end-to-end production system will be available to license globally. Situated in a prime agricultural location, this new site also benefits from:<br />
</p>
<ul>
<li>Plentiful and scalable corn stover biomass</li>
<li>Synergy with co-located grain plants</li>
<li>Access to technology hubs including Pioneer Hi-Bred research facilities and Iowa State University </li>
<li>Proximity to DuPont enzyme facility in Cedar Rapids</li>
</ul>
<p>We’re also <a href="constover.html">working with local farmers</a> throughout the area to secure reliable non-food feedstock supplies. Initially, this will be corn stover, which delivers an excellent ethanol yields per dry ton of feedstock.</p>

<p>Since 2008, our demonstration scale operating facility in Vonore, Tennessee has been generating the data necessary to finalize the <a href="conversion.html">integrated scale-up technology</a> for commercial production, including: </p>
<ul>
<li>Confirmed economics of biomass delivery with 2011 field stover harvest data </li>
<li>Engineering and front-end loading underway for Iowa site</li>
<li>Deployment strategy which includes commercial operations, licensing model and merchant enzymes</li>
</ul>
