<h1>The Role of Life Cycle Assessment in the<br />
Sustainable Biorefinery</h1>
<p>To quantify the environmental implications of different biorefinery options, we use a number of decision-making tools.</p>
<p>Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is one of the most important. DuPont employs thorough LCA modeling to guide its research and development to ensure we achieve the most sustainable design. Our integrated biorefinery model is designed to achieve a minimum of a 60% reduction of greenhouse-gas emissions vs. gasoline production.</p>
<p>For example, the design of our demonstration plant in Vonore, Tennessee is based on DuPont’s ICBR project funded in part by the US Department of Energy. The design of our new commercial scale biorefinery to be built in Nevada, Iowa this year has been subjected to stringent LCA modeling.</p>
