<h2>Mason Russell Joins Abt Associates as Executive Director, Registries, Pricing & Reimbursement</h2>
<p><strong>Cambridge, Mass. September 19, 2006</strong> — Mason W. Russell, M.A.P.E., an internationally-known health economist with more than 20 years of industry and consulting experience, has joined Abt Associates as Executive Director, Registries, Pricing & Reimbursement. A specialist in registry design and operations, global pricing and reimbursement strategy, and economic evaluation, including cost of illness and cost effectiveness analysis, Mr. Russell will lead Abt Associates' rapidly growing registries practice and will join <a href="/about/executive.html">Chris Pashos</a> in directing the firm's Health Economic Research and Quality of Life Evaluation Services (HERQuLES) team.</p>
<p>Russell's work in registries, clinical trials, pharmacoeconomics, epidemiology and strategy has been international in scope, focusing on issues relevant to major markets in Europe and Australasia as well as North America. His efforts have helped health care providers to better understand the clinical and economic impact of disease and the value of new drugs, biologics and devices in improving the outcomes achieved by patients. Aspects of his research have appeared in about 100 manuscripts and abstracts in leading peer-reviewed medical and health policy journals, such as the <em>American Journal of Cardiology, American Journal of Public Health, and Neurology</em>. </p>
<p>"For the routine tasks of a trial, study, or registry, sponsors assume a high level of quality from dozens of CROs. <p>Russell has been a long-standing member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and other leading organizations promoting effective healthcare. Prior to joining Abt Associates, Mr. Russell served as Chief Executive Officer of White Mountain Health Services; Director, Global Commercial Strategy for Biogen Idec; and in senior research positions for Boston Health Economics, Medical Research International, and Policy Analysis Inc. Before entering the commercial sector, he was Assistant Professor of Economics at Bentley College and Lecturer in Economics at Boston University. Mr. Russell completed his doctoral training in economics in Boston University, where he also earned an M.A. in political economy.</p>
