has changed our lives dramatically. Twenty years ago, computers were
viewed as a luxury or even an extravagance. Cables, modems, and online
services were virtually nonexistent. Today, computers are virtually
mandatory in businesses, homes, schools, and libraries. Chat rooms and
e-mails are now replacing telephones as a favorite means of communicating
for youth. Let�s face it; technology is great. It helps both adults and
children keep in touch with friends, allows users to make travel plans
with ease, and provides endless educational possibilities for its users.
But like any technology, it can be abused and sometimes even dangerous.
Children can be the targets of crime, exploitation, and harassment in
cyberspace just like in the real world. Therefore, both children and
parents need the means to protect themselves. </font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 1 5">

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 1 5">
<span style="font-family:Verdana"><font size="2">The <b>Safe Surf</b>
program will provide students and parents with the knowledge to navigate
the Internet with confidence. Through the workshops, students will learn
about appropriate ways to use the Internet, areas of the Internet that may
harmful, and what to do if they experience something dangerous on line.
At a Parent Night, <span style="color:black">parents will be presented
with information they can use to make informed decisions about their
child's Internet use in the home.</span> Parents will hear about the pros
and cons of the Internet, how kids commonly use the Internet, and will
discover ways to safeguard their children from potential dangers they face
by using the Internet.</font></span></p>
