issue of loss can be upsetting, overwhelming, and confusing.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</span>If you�ve ever experienced the death of a parent or
grandparent; separation/divorce of parents; loss of a cherished pet
or possession, or break-up with a boyfriend/girlfriend you may have
felt angry, hopeless, sad, or confused.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</span>Loss is a topic youth will be dealing with more and more as
they get older, and it is critical to become familiar and
comfortable with discussing the dynamics and impact of loss, and
aware of how to access professional assistance and other avenues of
support. <o:p>

can be an intimidating issue.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>A
loss can impact a young people�s academic, physical, social, and
emotional well-being, and those who have experienced a loss are at
significantly greater risk of engaging in harmful behaviors. Youth
cannot avoid life�s difficulties, but by approaching the issue of
loss in a preventative manner, they can address loss in a more
productive and healthy manner.<o:p>

LINCS Program is facilitated by the Needham Youth Commission in
collaboration with Needham High School.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</span>Working with 9<sup>th</sup> graders, students have the opportunity to learn about loss prior to a
crisis, better understand their feelings related to a loss, gain
insight into the grieving process, and learn ways to cope more
appropriately with a loss<o:p>.

program takes an active stance toward this sensitive issue, bringing
this rarely discussed topic out in the open.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</span>Youth who experience the pain of loss can be supported, and
don�t need to resort to harmful behaviors or medicate themselves
from their pain.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>This
program is recognition that death, divorce, major change, and the
loss of any important relational, personal, or property matter is a
significant experience. <o:p>
