      <font face="Verdana"><span style="font-size: 10.0pt">Having a sufficient 
      supply of affordable </span>
      <span style="font-size: 10.0pt; color: red !msorm">housing</span><font size="2">
      </font><span style="font-size: 10.0pt">in Needham available to a broad 
      variety of income groups, continues to be a major goal of the Board and 
      Town.<b>&nbsp; </b>Accordingly,<b> </b>in the fall of 2002 the Needham 
      Selectmen created the Comprehensive Community Housing Study Committee, 
      made up of both town officials and at-large members.&nbsp; The Committee was 
      asked </span><span style="font-size:10.0pt">to coordinate, research and 
      make recommendations to the Town about ways of maintaining and increasing 
      housing options for individuals and families with low and moderate incomes 
      and, more particularly, to make recommendations which will have the effect 
      of:</span></font></p>
      <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 1 5">&nbsp;</p>
      <ol>
        <li>
        <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 1 5">
        <font face="Verdana" size="2">i</font><font face="Verdana"><span style="font-size:10.0pt">ncreasing 
        the amount of housing for low and moderate income residents to 10%, the 
        goal set by state law; </span></font></li>
        <li>
        <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 1 5">
        <font face="Verdana"><span style="font-size:10.0pt">increasing the 
        housing options for moderate income residents, including those who live 
        in or work for the Town of Needham, so that they can remain in Town;</span></font></li>
        <li>
        <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 1 5">
        <font face="Verdana"><span style="font-size:10.0pt">building housing 
        that remains affordable in perpetuity, as part of an overall plan for 
        responsible land use and open space preservation, and in keeping with 
        the character of the Town.</span></font></li>

      was to solicit public comments and suggestions, which will be incorporated 
      into the final housing plan to be completed in early March.</font></p>
