<span style="font-family: Verdana"><font size="2">At the 21<sup>st</sup>
Annual Massachusetts Recreation and Park Association Conference held in
Fitchburg, Patty Carey, Director of the Needham Park and Recreation
Commission, was bestowed the MRPA�s highest honor, the Peter C. O�Brien
Humanitarian Award. Patty has been the Director of Needham Parks and
Recreation since 1995. She has been an active member of the MRPA for
over 20 years and has served as a member of the MRPA Executive Board,
and she has served on many national and state conference committees.
Patty has coordinated and facilitated a group study and professional
exchange program with colleagues from Canada and Australia. She also
contributes to the MRPA monthly newsletter writing a column called Board
Talk focusing on working with park and recreation boards and
commissions. Patty has worked hard over her 10 years as director and 9
years as assistant director to work to create better understanding about
the needs of the parks and programs with the Needham Board of Selectmen,
School Committee, and the Finance Committee. She has created
partnerships with many Needham organizations to help fund or provide
labor for park/playground projects and programs. Currently she is
serving on the Facility and Field Study committees in town</font></span></p>
