initiated the outstanding community collaboration that created the
Greene�s Field Playground in 1988. Discussions are underway for what will
be done next at Greene�s Field. </font></p>

Greene�s Field, the surfacing at each playground is a special manufactured
fiber that is deemed handicap accessible. A few locations still have some
sand surfaces. Greene�s Field uses a pea stone. </font></p>

<span style="font-family: Verdana"><font size="1" color="#000000">Two
wooden structures remain, including the structure for older students at
Newman designed by Columbia Cascade; and the structure at Greene�s Field
designed by Robert Leathers, Associates. <i>Columbia Cascade�s
specifications prohibit preservatives containing arsenic,
pentachlorophenol, creosote or similar chemical</i>. The EPA has studied
risks of exposure from wooden playground equipment, and found that those
in colder climates are less risky than warmer climates. The EPA has not
recommended removal of wooden playgrounds nor removal of nearby soil, but
suggests that children wash their hands after playing. A decision on the
future of the Greene�s Field structure will be made during 2006. </font>
