MOUNTAIN BIKE PATROL</font></span><!--mstheme--></font></h2>

<span style="font-family: Verdana"><font size="2">Five patrol officers
currently staff the Needham Police Mountain Bike Unit. They perform
this function in addition to their regular patrol schedule. The
mountain bike patrol has been a positive and successful addition to the
services we already provide to the Town of Needham. Officers on
mountain bike are much more accessible to the public. They are highly
visible, very mobile, and can approach people committing crimes with the
element of surprise. The officers patrol Needham Square, Needham
Heights, all public and school grounds, areas falling under the Needham
Housing Authority, Town Forest, MBTA stations and parking lots, as well
as many other locations.</font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" align="justify" style="margin: 1px 5px">
<span style="font-family: Verdana"><font size="2">The officers are
engaged in a vast array of assignments, which include but are not
limited to; directed patrol of downtown and target areas, traffic
enforcement, bicycle safety training programs, and special events.</font></span></p>
