Emergency Management Agency (now also called the Community Emergency
Response Team) is ready to open the public shelter at a moment's notice
should a situation require it. Under these circumstances we become an
extension of the other town Emergency Services and will share in the care
for the safety and well being of all residents. </span></p>

<span style="font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Verdana; font-weight: 700">
Pollard Middle School</span></u><span style="font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Verdana">
has been selected as the primary emergency shelter because of it's central
location (The Needham High School is the backup location). The Pollard
school cafeteria hall and gym can be converted to an area to feed and
provide a safe sleeping area for many Needham residents by setting up cots
that are permanently stored there. The cafeteria kitchen and adjacent
offices function as shelter kitchen and communications facilities.
Generators can supply electricity as long as required. The shelter
includes shower facilities and play areas for children. The security of
the shelter is assured by Needham Police officers on duty. Nurses on staff
at the Emergency Management Agency will provide primary care and arrange
for transport to the hospital through the Needham Fire Department if
necessary. Special ham radio antennas are mounted on the school roof to
assure communications with the State of Massachusetts Central Emergency
Management Office in Framingham under the most adverse conditions. There
are vehicles available to pick up residents that are unable to reach the
shelter themselves. </span></p>

<span style="font-weight: 700">Emergency Operations Center</span></u> has
been kept operational from the Civil Defense days and is now set up with a
safe conference room and communication systems.</span></p>
