more likely they are to start smoking. Non-smoking teens whose favorite stars
frequently smoke on screen are 16 times more likely to have positive attitudes
towards smoking in the future. In 2000, movies averaged 10.8 smoking incidents
per hour compared to 5.9 in 1990. These troubling findings come from research
conducted by Stanton Glantz at the University of California, San Francisco.</font></p>

Tobacco Day, celebrated around the world on May 31. You don�t see cigarette ads
on TV anymore, but you still see plenty of smoking in the movies. </font></p>

Hollywood tends to exaggerate the use of tobacco. While in reality fewer people
are smoking, films are rife with smokers. In the movie �Chicago� (PG-13) they
even smoked while they were dancing! The frequency and images of tobacco use in
films give children the erroneous and unfortunate idea that everyone is doing it
and that smoking is glamorous. </font></p>
