<P><B>The Nederlandse Klokkenspel-Vereniging (Dutch Carillon Association) was founded in 1918. Its 100th anniversary is a fine opportunity to promote the cultural heritage of the carillon and its music with a series of nation-wide attractive events. A prominent place will be reserved for an international interpretation carillon contest, being held on July 6th, 2018 on the Zwolle Peperbus and Kampen Nieuwe Toren carillons. This contest will be organized by the Zwolse Beiaard Stichting (Zwolle Carillon Foundation) and Beiaardkring Kampen (Carillon Committee Kampen).</B></P>
<P><FONT color="#FF0000"><B>INVITATION</B></FONT><BR>The NKV invites carillonneurs to apply for this contest. It is a special event because the contestants will be judged according to their ability to deal with two completely different types of carillon, both in their choice of repertoire and their interpretation.</P>
<P><FONT color="#FF0000"><B>INSTRUMENTS</B></FONT><BR>The majority of the 51 bells in the Peperbus were founded by John Taylor. The instrument is well-tempered: b-flat<SUP>0</SUP> - c<SUP>1</SUP> - d<SUP>1</SUP> - chrom. - d<SUP>5</SUP> (manual keyboard) en b-flat<SUP>0</SUP> - c<SUP>1</SUP> - d<SUP>1</SUP> - chrom. - d<SUP>2</SUP> (pedal).</P>
<P>The Kampen Nieuwe Toren carillon dates mainly from 1659-62. The bellfounder was François Hemony. The mean tone tuned instrument has 48 bells: c<SUP>1</SUP> - d<SUP>1</SUP> - chrom. - c<SUP>5</SUP> and transposes a major third downwards.</P>

<P><FONT color="#FF0000"><B>AWARDS</B></FONT><BR>The following awards are available: 1e prize € 2.500, 2e prize € 2.000, 3e prize € 1.500, 4e prize € 1.000, 5e prize € 500.</P>
<P><FONT color="#FF0000"><B>JURY</B></FONT><BR>A jury consisting of Arie Abbenes (NL, chair), Koen Cosaert (B), Ellen Dickenson (USA), Frans Haagen (NL) and Bernard Winsemius (NL) will select 5 finalists from the applications in March 2018. <P>[1] a repertoire list mentioning:

<LI>for performance in Zwolle: 5 compositions written originally for carillon (at least two of these have been written after 1950 by a Dutch composer).</LI>
<LI>for performance in Kampen: 5 pieces from the baroque or classical period.</LI>
<LI>for each work: composer, arranger (if applicable) and duration should be added.</LI>

</P>
<P>[2] a recording (15 - 20 minutes) of an original carillon composition that could be performed on the carillon of Zwolle and a recording of (an arrangement of) a work from the baroque or classical period that can be played in Kampen. The required audio file format is .wav and scores need to be send along as .pdf documents.</P>
<P>[3] a curriculum vitae with contact data and relevant information about education and experience as a carillonneur.</P>
<P>Applying implies being available to play on July 6th, 2018 and willing to pay the expenses of travel and accommodation.</P>
<P>The full application should be received by e-mail (large files by WeTransfer) ultimately on March 14th, 2018.</P>
<P><FONT color="#FF0000"><B>SELECTION PROCESS</B></FONT><BR>The materials will be anonymized by the organization and studied by the jury in order to select 5 finalists. Criteria: (1) vision on program making for carillon, and (2) performance level.</P>
<P>The jury decides what each of the 5 finalists will have to play from their own lists in Zwolle and Kampen to a total duration of maximally 25 minutes on each of the carillons. 'Centenary Bells', a newly commissioned composition from Leo Samama, is the obligatory work in Zwolle.</P>
<P>Applicants ultimately receive the selection results April 11th, 2018. The jury will be present on July 6th and will decide on the order of the prizes. This final result will be announced and celebrated directly afterwards in Kampen.</P>
