<P><B>WINTERSWIJK - Friday September 7, 2001 the Nederlandse Klokkenspel-Vereniging (Dutch Carillon Society) organised in cooperation with the Stichting Carillon Jacobstoren (Foundation for the carillon of the Jacobstower) an International Carillon Competition on the carillon of the Jacobstower in Winterswijk. The 48 bells in the range es<sup>1</sup> (c<sup>1</sup>) – f<sup>1</sup> – chrom. – es<sup>5</sup> were cast in 1993 by Royal Petit & Fritsen in Aarle-Rixtel. The carillon is installed in a fairly closed tower and has a standard European keyboard.</B></P>
<P><FONT color="#FF0000"><B>COMPETITION</B></FONT><BR>The competition started at 13.00 hours and ended at about 22.00 hours in the evening. Twelve carillonneurs performed in two categories: A – carillonneurs with a diplome, and B – carillonneurs without a diplome. Candidates participating in category A were allowed to choose a compulsary work: either <I>Passacaglia</I> composed by Jos. Lerinckx (1920-2000) or <I>Exodus</I> from David Harold Cox. Participants in category B had to play two compulsary works: <I>Reflections</I> from Gary White (b. 1937) and <I>Thema en variaties</I> by Staf Nees (1901-1965).</P>
<P><FONT color="#FF0000"><B>JURY</B></FONT><BR>Members of the jury were Geert D'hollander (president), Roel Smit, Joke Brandsma, Leon van der Eijk, and Hans Barten. During the afternoon the weather was acceptable, but in the evening it started to rain. The jury – seated in the open air – had a hard time.</P>
<P><FONT color="#FF0000"><B>PRIZE-WINNERS</B></FONT><BR>Anne Kroeze from Emmeloord was awarded the first prize in category A. The second prize was for Henk Veldman from Amersfoort. In category B there were also two prizes to be presented. The first prize was for Nan Los from Veldhoven, while Esther Schopman from Enschede won the second prize.</P>
