<h2>AAS  96-220</h2><h2>EVE, AN INTERACTIVE VIRTUAL OPERATIONS TOOL FOR THE EXTREME ULTRAVIOLET EXPLORER</h2><h4>D. Korsmeyer, NASA Ames Research Center; T. Morgan, Center for EUV Astrophysics</h4><h2> Abstract </h2>The Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer (EUVE) Science Operations Center (ESOC) will be drastically reducing its personnel requirements for payload monitoring, analysis, and science planning.  In order to achieve this goal they must implement innovative software techniques, in cooperation with NASA's research centers, to improve the output of a reduced set of operational personnel.  This increase in productivity will be achieved, in part, using advanced software to automate monitoring functions.  For those activities that require human intervention, tools will be developed that assist the operators visualize situations and create solutions.  NASA Ames Research Center's Computational Sciences Division has developed and is developing a suite of tools for use on the EUVE.  The goal of the EVE effort is to create a virtual reality (VE), interactive viewing tool for the Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer (EUVE) using the Virtual Environment Vehicle Interface (VEVI) software currently used in development at NASA's Ames Research Center.  This tool would improve satellite environment visualization and improve the satellite operation team's problem solving and activity planning capabilities.
