<h2>AAS  96-209</h2><h2>ON THE INERTIAL MEASUREMENT UNIT USING FIBER OPTIC GYROSCOPES</h2><h4>H. Shingu, M. Harigae, T. Tsujii, K. Ishikawa, and Y. Miyazawa, National Aerospace Laboratory, Japan</h4><h2> Abstract </h2>The fiber optic gyroscopes (FOGs) is expected to be used as an attitude sensor in future aerospace vehicles.  This paper presents the test-run results of the inertial measurement unit using FOGs(FOGIMU) manufactured for flight evaluation of the hybrid navigation  system at the National Aerospace Laboratory.  First, system integration and function of the FOGIMU are summarized. Next, performances of the inertial sensors contained in the FOGIMU are shown. Third, the navigation performance of the FOGIMU  is defined  and the ground-test results are shown. Finally, it is concluded that the FOGIMU satisfies the conditions necessary for constructing the hybrid navigation system<br><br>
