George Vassilatos was born in the city of Corfu, Greece where he completed his 
secondary school education.  After receiving a Diploma in Chemical Engineering from 
the National Technical University of Athens (Polytechnion), he pursued graduate studies 
in Canada and the United States.  He received a Master of Applied Science degree from the 
University of Toronto, Canada and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in chemical engineering 
from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA in 1964.<br><br>
The same year he joined the Research Division of the Engineering Department of the DuPont 
Company in Wilmington, Delaware  as a research engineer and later on he moved to the Central 
Research Department.  Currently, he is a DuPont Fellow, the highest technical level in the 
Corporation.  Dr. Vassilatos� field of research activity is synthetic fiber spinning dynamics 
and fiber molecular structure development.  He is the author of numerous papers published in 
refereed technical journals and he holds a number of patents in these areas.  He has received 
recognition for his work.<br><br>
Dr. Vassilatos is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, an Affiliate Professor 
of Chemical Engineering at the University of Washington and a member of the Advisory Board of the 
Chemical Engineering Department of Carnegie Mellon University.  Currently, he is the president of 
the (International) Polymer Processing Society (1999-2001).<br><br>
Dr. Vassilatos has served the Greek-American Community of Wilmington, Delaware in many capacities. 
For many years, he held various positions on the Parish Council of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox 
Church and he served as president of the Parish Council.  He has also served as president of the Hellenic 
University Club of Wilmington.<br><br>
Dr. Vassilatos resides in Wilmington, Delaware, with his wife Yvonne. They have two married children and 
are blessed with three grandchildren.<br><br>
