Dr. CHRIS P. TSOKOS.

My fellow co-workers, members, friends and philhellenes of AFGLC. I
wish to inform you about the status of our endowed professorships in the
Greek Language, Greek History, Greek Culture and Greek Philosophy and the
Orthodox religion and AFGLC's "INTERDISCIPLINARY CENTER FOR HELLENIC STUDIES"
at USF. I am extremely happy to inform you that your Executive Committee
executed and signed the legal contractual agreements with USF for the five
endowed professors and the establishment of ICHS. Some extremely important
aspects of our contractual agreements are that both ICHS and the endowed
professors are in perpetuity, AFGLC has complete control of the administrative
structure of ICHS and participation in the selection and decision process
of the endowed professors. These documents are available for your inspection
at our headquarters.

As you know, we are in the process of preparing for starting ICHS on
March 10-11, 2000. There is a lot of work to be done and we seek your kind
assistance forr both our Educational Forum and Gala Event.

I am happy to inform you that we finalized AFGLC's organizational structure
and we hope it meets with your approval. We have our own web page so that
the world can know about AFGLC and its noble mission. Dr. Ul Balis from
Harvard Medical College designed our impressive web page at: http://www.afglc.org
and we are very thankful for his continued enthusiastic assistance and
support.

Recently, I gave a presentation at the Greek-American Union in Athens
about our Foundation. I reviewed the historical, present and future aims
of AFGLC. We were extremely successful with this activity, which was very
well attended by officers of the Academy of Athens, distinguished educators,
politicians, business people and ordinary citizens. I wish to thank our
International Correspondent, Ms. Fotini Priniotakis, and Dr. Takis Klis
for arranging this presentation and for the hard work that was essential
for the success which was achieved. This coming year is very special for
AFGLC with the opening of ICHS and the international respect and recognition
that our Foundation has been receiving. Please continue your hard work
and dedication to AFGLC.

Many, many thanks to all

Chris P. Tsokos

LETTER OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE GREEK PARLIAMENT, Mr. APOSTOLOS KAKLAMANIS

ADDRESSED TO Dr. TSOKOS, PRESIDENT OF THE AFGLC.

Dear Mr. Tsokos,

I thank you for the invitation to attend the event of the presentation
in Greece of the work and achievements of the "American Foundation for
Greek Language and Culture".

In a country with a mosaic of cultures and races, like the U.S.A., the
goals and activities of a Foundation that cultivates, promotes and projects
the Greek Language and Culture, are extremely valuable and nationally profitable.

I, therefore, congratulate the members of your Foundation for this event,
as well as all the coworkers, friends and supporters of the AFGLC for their
contribution.

I do wish successful results to your goals and aims.

Your invitation reached me at the mountains of my homeland, Ipiros.
I congratulate all of you for the valuable achievements and for the goals

U.S.A.

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA Ms. BETTY CASTOR

Dr. Chris P. Tsokos
American Foundation for Greek
Language and Culture.

Dear Chris:

On behalf of the University of South Florida, I extend my sincere appreciation
to you and the membership of the American Foundation for Greek Language
and Culture for your recent commitment to establish four endowed professorships.
These professorships in Greek Culture, Greek History, Orthodox Religion,
and Modern and Classical Greek Language and Literature, along with the
existing professorship in Greek Philosophy, will form the foundation of
the USF Center for Hellenic Studies.

The magnitude of the Foundation's generosity will be exceeded only by
the impact of these gifts to significantly enhance the University's ability
to recruit and/or retain distinguished scholars in these five academic
areas. The Center for Hellenic Studies will assuredly generate international
recognition of our University as an institution of excellence in the Greek
disciplines.

The University greatly values the partnership it now shares with the
American Foundation for Greek Language and Culture. Thank you again for
the interest and support of the American Foundation for Greek Language
and Culture.

Sincerely,
Betty Castor

FORUM AND GALA - Y E A R 2000 (Y2K)

The turning of this century is around the corner and there's a lot going
on for the preparation for welcoming the New Millenium.

Our Forum for the year 2000 will be held on Friday March 10th and on
Saturday March 11th, at the Amphitheater of the University of South Florida
in Tampa. We are working hard on having magnet dignitaries, speakers and
scholars from Greece and the States. We are not still in a position to
let you know who these people will be, but definitely their presence here
in the Tampa Bay area will be a surprise. We are working on having with
us a top political figure as speaker, and also for the grand opening of
the ICHS which will take place in March.

The GALA this year will be held at the prestigious "BILTMORE BELLEVUE
HOTEL" in Clearwater on Saturday evening, March 11th, 2000. The reason
we decided to switch the date and the place is that we need more attendance
this year from people who could not attend due to other events on the first
weekend of March. We are expecting an increased number of participants
and we promise you that it will be an evening that the Greek Community
and our friends will talk about for a long time. We'll have pleasant surprises
and also valuable prizes kindly offered by our sponsors and supporters.
Also for your entertainment pleasure, we have invited a famous Greek singer
from Athens, Greece.

The Executive Committee of the AFGLC, the Board of Trustees and the
Board of Directors, wish you all "HAPPY HOLIDAYS" with your families and
friends, and good health and happiness for the coming Year 2000.

MISCELLANEOUS:

In the last meeting of AFGLC, the Executive Committee, the Board of
Trustees and the Board of Directors, have decided and mutually agreed that
the monthly general meeting of the Foundation, will be held on the second
Tuesday of every month. The meetings will be at the office at 7:30 p.m.
unless otherwise advised.

Our Internet page has been developed by Dr. Ulysses Balis of the Harvard
University, son of Dr. John Balis Vice President of the Foundation. The
address is: http://www.afglc.org. We
thank Dr. U. Balis for his dedication to the Foundation and for his wonderful
page on the Internet.

You may call the Foundation any time and leave a message. Your call
is very important and will be returned promptly. <P.On Sunday, September 19, 1999, seven members of AFGLC attended the liturgy of St. Barbara's
church in Sarasota. The members are: Dr. Chris Tsokos, Dr. and Mrs. Dim. Halkias, Mr. and Mrs.
Phil Rivers, Mr. George Pappas and Mr. Michael Melachrino. Members of the Greek Cultural
Center of Sarasota cordially welcomed us. After the service, we were offered a tasty lunch at
the hall of the Church. President Tsokos spoke in English about the Foundation, its goals,
aims and objectives, and about the creation of the Interdisciplinary Center at the University
of South Florida in Tampa. Dr. Halkias emphasized the need for financial support, the
"Committee of 100", and new avenues for that purpose. Finally Member of the Board of
Directors, Mr. Michael Melachrino, analyzed in Greek the purpose of the AFGLC and why the
Foundation needs everybody's support. Also he referred to the past and future activities of
the Foundation. As promised for the first time, this issue includes a Greek section of the
Newsletter.

We
welcome back to Florida all members of the Greek community who vacationed
in Motherland Greece. We encourage them, as well as all our supporters,
to become members of the Foundation and become active members in our recently
founded various Committees, and thus be able to serve the goals and objectives
of AFGLC.

Our thanks and gratitude to Angelatos Bros, Sotiris and Angelo, owners
of AM 1520 and AM 1520 Greek Voice and the Greek TV Channel 48, for their
generous publicity and the TV appearances of our President, Dr. Chris Tsokos,
and Mr. Michael Melachrino. AFGLC greatly appreciates their contribution.
Our next Newsletter will be in April 2000, after our events.

While these lines are printed, the contributors to the "Committee of

We'd like to thank immensely Mrs. Debbie Tsokos for her valuable time in
correcting the English text of this Newsletter.

The development of the fourth edition of this Newsletter was by Mr.
Michael Melachrino and Ms. Fotini Priniotakis.
