<P><FONT SIZE=2>This half-day workshop comprises five short lectures
given by scientists drawn from the various Schools of Virginia
Commonwealth University and from industry. Each 20-minute
lecture/presentation is to be accompanied by a 10-minute participant
discussion session.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2>The workshop seeks to introduce the title subject and
address the breath of possibilities in fundamental research,
technological development and commercial applications.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2>This workshop is ideally suited to professionals just
entering the rapidly growing multidisciplinary fields of
bioelectronics, biosensors and biochips. The workshop is geared to
those who are seeking an appreciation of the breath of fundamental
issues and the technological possibilities for biochips. The workshop
will focus attention on the work that is ongoing at VCU with its
industry collaborators, the planned expansion of these activities in
the targeted area, and the broad multidisciplinary participation
needed for impact in this area.</FONT></P>

sophisticated investors, technology and business analysts, marketing
executives, technical project managers and researchers who may wish
to develop a greater familiarity with these rapidly emerging

Guiseppi-Elie</FONT></B><FONT SIZE=2> is Professor of
Chemical Engineering, Affiliate Professor of Biomedical
Engineering, and President and Scientific Director at ABTECH
Scientific, Inc., a developer and marketer of chemical and
biological sensor devices, instruments and systems. He has
over 16 years experience in biosensor systems, surface
science and polymer-biopolymer thin films. Dr. Guiseppi-Elie
holds the Sc.D. in Polymer Materials Science and Engineering
from MIT (1983), the M.Sc. in Corrosion Science and
Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of
Science and Technology (UMIST), and the B.Sc. in Applied,
Analytical and Biochemistry from the University of the West
Indies (UWI). He completed postdoctoral work at MIT, has
studied Business and Technology Management and has been a
Visiting Scientist in the Department of Biomedical
Engineering, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He
has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers, written 3 book
chapters, and holds 6 patents.</FONT>
