(MDEAs)</FONT></FONT></H3>
<P><FONT SIZE=1><FONT FACE="Verdana">MDEAs are single electrodes
wherein the contact between the conductor and the electroactive
material under test is made through a series of tiny microdiscs
arranged in a hexagonal close packed array; compared to the
traditional single surface contact. Microdiscs of 50, 100, and 250
microns are microfabricated from <FONT SIZE=1><FONT FACE="Verdana">100
nm magnetron sputter-deposited </FONT></FONT>Gold (Au), 100 nm
<FONT SIZE=1><FONT FACE="Verdana">e-gun vapor-deposited </FONT></FONT>Platinum
(Pt), or 100 nm Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) on <FONT SIZE=1><FONT FACE="Verdana">an
electronics grade </FONT></FONT>borosilicate glass substrate. <FONT SIZE=1><FONT FACE="Verdana">A
500nm thin insulating silicon nitride layer is applied over the
conductor and that insulator is microlithographically windowed
using reactive ion etching to reveal an array of microdisc-windows
as awell as a <FONT SIZE=1><FONT FACE="Verdana">single bonding pad
</FONT></FONT>to the conductor beneath. </FONT></FONT>Great for
transient electrochemistry, immobilized enzymes, electroactive

are well suited to the development of impedimetric, amperometric,
